The 1997 Seadoo XP Page

History: The 1997 Seadoo XP was supposed to be the next revolutionary step in the runabout class after a very successful 1996 XP. They made radical changes to the hull, but the engine wasn't ready in time for the season release. Therefore, instead of delaying production, Seadoo decided to produce the 97 XP with the 800 series engine. A very good engine, but not enough to deliver XP performance on a much heavier body (100 pounds heavier than a 96.) The body was designed to use the 951 series engine, which was to be located further back in the hull for better weight distribution. In the end, the 97 XP is slower and handles worse than what it was designed to be. Thus, when the 951 engine was ready, the 1997 XP Limited appeared a few months later. Well, I can live with it. It is like taming a wild horse that needs to be kicked a little harder to make it move. At least that is my excuse.
